Research interests

After my A-Level graduation in 2005, I studied Geological Sciences at the LMU and TU Munich. With my Bachelor Thesis, I started to work with actinopterygian fishes from the Mesozoic and got very interested in this diverse group of fishes. This large and very important group of fishes is not enough studied yet, and the interrelationships of many basal lineages are still not clear. My research interest does focus on anatomy, morphology and systematics of basal actinopterygian fishes. I am notably interested in the group of Aspidorhynchidae, a family of neopterygian fishes that lived in the Mesozoic time, and which was very abundant in the Jurassic of Europe. In my current research, I concern myself with the Aspidorhynchid genus Aspidorhynchus. I am especially interested in the anatomy and morphology of the group, the diversity of Aspidorhynchus in the Jurassic of Europe, the high intraspecific variation and evolutionary processes.
